Thumbs up Out-door Bamboo

Im looking to plant a whole section of outdoor bamboo that cant reach up to 20ft+ in height.

It comes dark to light green with pretty thick bamboo.

Has anyone planted these before?

It is quite aggressive in it's growth habit, make sure you can contain it or it will literally overtake your yard if it is the "running" Bamboo. Stick with the "clumping" varieties that are slow (about 3" a year) to expand.

Out of curiosity, is this to shade out something or as a windbreak? It will work well in either situation.

I have lots in my yard. You can cut up a root mass and grow a whole new tree from it.

How many do you want? I'll supply the shovel and the sawzall

I can even tell you how to cure it after you cut it.

I too have TONS of it in my backyard quite by accident . . . it migrated from my neighbor's yard. We spend days and days trying to get rid of it. I believe it grows as soon as we turn our backs. My neighbor even tried burning it out, but it came back.

val

normally when you plant bamboo you ring it with a cement or other containment ring at the max distance you want it spread. you need to go down about 20 inches.

the stalks of bamboo are the limbs of a single tree, the trunk is underground. Each stalk is connected. If you want rid of it, you have to destroy the root that connects the trunks.

Every so many years, I rent a stump chipper. It works great, mulches the roots and the stumps. Only way I know to kill it. Conversely, you can dig a piece of a stump, transplant it and start a whole new tree.
