Default Overused terms that drive you nuts..

Im not a "pet-peev" kind of guy.. you know those people that get pissed off at every stupid little thing BUT there are just some terms that are so overplayed in an effort to make the person saying it seem smart or cultured that just pisses me off to no end:

Space - Watch and episode of HGTVs anything and EVERY ****ING ROOM IS A "SPACE". This space would be great with blah blah blah.. this space is blah blah.. ITS A ****ING KITCHEN BITCH! These ROOMS have names. I could understand if it was some random, outside the norm oddity or weird setup but when you're clearly talking about a BEDROOM call it a BEDROOM.

Intense - No need to explain - Some people just think everything is "intense". Hes so intense, that must have been intense, this thread is intense... I get it. You're so deep.

Attention-to-detail - generic cop-out for everything, especially bosses unsatisfied with slight oversights. Irritating and overused.

/Rant.

People that use the word "absolutely" as the standard answer for every question that they dont want to answer "no".

Hey is this book good? Absolutely.

Is Mark here today? Absolutely.

Was she a good lay on the kitchen table after a nice dinner? Absolutely.

on a <fill in your favorite adjective> basis

Yuck!

Learn to use adverbs, for goodness sake!

Don't jog on a regular basis; jog regularly.

Don't have arguments on a daily basis; argue daily.

Don't apply rules on a consistent basis; apply them consistently.

Don't ask which item is most attractive on a price basis; ask which is most attractive in price. (Or, better still, which is cheapest, or least expensive, or most economical.)

Unless you're talking about 1/100 of 1% in interest rates (a basis point), or a linearly independent set of vectors that spans a vector space, you're better off not using the word basis at all.

How about " at the end of the day" or " it is what it is" or "I know, right?"

I have a coworker who frequently says, "In my mind." ("In my mind, we should be following this procedure"; that sort of thing.)

Every time I hear it I recall a phrase taught to all first-year law students: "Assumes facts not in evidence."

I use, "You don't say?" as a pat response to drive people nuts.

Although the cafe by the same name in Raliegh, NC is a nice diversion if you ever get there.
