Default Parents' got scammed

Hi, my parents payed a contactor to add a bathroom to their house and he suddenly dissappeared. He asked for half the payment and once my mom gave him the check, he stopped answering calls and never came back. I was wondering if there is any way for me to find out where he lives or anything by knowing only his cell phone number? My friends at Verizon and Tmobile tried to check the phone number but the number didn't come up, meaning he must have Cingular, Sprint, or Nextel. Is there any possible to way to find out any info? He left with a pretty significant amount of money and he also did this to my mom's friend.

Sounds fairly serious.. I'd get local law enforcement involved.

Yeah, a local investigator can find out who the number belongs to. I had to do it once.

You can have your bank stop that check. It may be too late but you can inform them of the fraudulent acticivity. You should also contact police. They will help in this matter.

It's too late to stop the check. I don't think the local will do much. Our best bet is taking him to claims court, but we're gonna have to end up paying most of what we get to a lawyer by the end of everything. I would rather just confront him and ask him to return it, it's been almost a year since this happened and my parents are not even asking for any type of interest, they just want their money back. Their house is still bare (from the deconstruction that was done before, which he was supposed to redo) and really needs that bathroom. If anyone can help, his number is (714) 342-6147 and his name (not sure if a real name) is Henry Samoya.

This may help, or you may already have this much info.

Wow thanks so much Detroit, that helped so much. My mom called him today from a new number with a far away area code and he actually answered. He said he's gonna do the bathroom still and that he can't give the money back because he already bought the materials. He's most likely lying because theres no way he bought the materials a year a go and still have it now and was not gonna call us back. At least we have an address now where we can swing by if he decides to run again. He said hes gonna call us in 2 weeks do do the bathroom. Any more info on this guy would be appreciated. Thanks again Detroit and everyone for advice

You just gave him two weeks to move and get a new phone number. I'd call him again and tell him you want the money now or you're getting the cops involved. He already scammed you by cashing the check, so you should already have enough for the cops to take some action.
