Default Personal trainers - $30-$40 per session even here in Pennsylvania.

I maybe a bit niave, but why would I pay a personal trainer $40 per hour? I would imagine in LA or NYC it is a lot more.

The people I see using personal trainers are usually older, fairly out of shape folks. The personal trainers don't appear to be doing anything abnormaly wonderfull with these folks. They just shuffle them from one machine to the next just like the rest of the members do.....

Do the clients have low self esteem and think that paying someone $40 per hour will make them their friend? Are the results that much different than just doing your own thing? Most of them clients seem to be ~170lb women (not horribly out of shape, but not really in shape either).

I just couldn't imagine paying using a trainer to work out 3-4 times per week and paying $30-$40 each time.....to end up with the same results as doing my own thing.

Well, I will say that there are good personal trainers, however, the vast majority of them are just crap. Most don't know the first thing about properly training the individual. Everyone has a different body plan and needs attention with certain aspects of their body. Trainers usually don't get this.

However, 30-40 dollars is nothing. I chicago, alot of my friends were trainers and they were taking 100-150 easy. However, these guys were serious lifters.. The average gym will not have a decent trainer.

I have never used a trainer. In fact, I will personal train my friends for free. Its not hard, but few people actually understand it, and use the right excercises with proper technique..

Maybe it is the fact that someone knows they have an appointment and they will be charged $40.00 if they don't show up (like at the doctors) so that motivates them to go.?

$100 an hour for someone to train you in a gym! Thats nutz! What the hell could they possibly do? Unless it was so hottie...."pumping irene"

Trainers can help a lot if they are good and pay attention to your individual needs. If it's some smuck who got a part-time job b/c he wants to have free access to the gym's equipment, you're in for trouble..

but the reason why trainers are good is mainly b/c most people don't have faintest clue how to work out properly. they have not read andy fitness manuals and wind up hurting themselves, or overworking themselves to the point where they no longer feel like working out (like 2 weeks in a row, ahrd workouts every day - and the spunk they had when they made their new year's resolution is out the window and they never set foot in the gym again).

It's crazy how many people i feel tempted to tap on the shoulder and say:" you really should not be doing it like that. you'll end up with all sorts of ligament and muscle problems" Seriouly, sometimes, I have almost stoped people b/c it just looked so damn wrong and painful. I think i should. I think it's a good thing to do for people. It's not that you are telling them they are stupid or anything, they just don't know. When i first started working out, i had ABSOLUTLY NO IDEA what i was doing, and te worst of it is that i had no idea i should know something.

so, yeah, for educational and motivational purposes, i def. think that trainers are worth your time and money so that you do it right.

now, you sound like you know what you are doing so you don't see the point of paying a trainer, and i understand b/ci would never pay a trainer either, but a lot of people really should.

Most trainers here cost about $60 per hour if you don't buy them in blocks. If you say buy 10 sessions you might pay about $10 less an session.

Well, professional trainers? The ones that the GYM provides?
Hehe they ar enot professional Trainers. They are professional rep counters. All they do is to show you how to have perfect form while doing exercises, which is actually really important, and count the reps you do.
So you dont need them if you know waht you are doing. I myself do every exercise perfect form and If I cant do it at the perfect form and range of motion I lower the weight. But for people who is new to weight training, couple sessions with those trainers to learn how to do bench presses or squats cant hurt, it will actually benifit you for the rest of your life.

I have worked with some trainers and I can easily say that if you are looking to target any specific goals in working out they can be a huge help and well worth every penny.

One great example of this is core training the average person simply cannot go out and effectively do a core session and maintain the proper posture through out. It's like doing yoga without an instructor, you just are not going to do it correctly until you have had someone teach you.

Short term learning worth every penny, imho.
