Default Phantomplate

I was driving from work when I pulled up along a black S with this reflective cover on the back license plate. Now I know that it is illegal in almost all states. Then as I was beginning to pass it, I again noticed that half the plate as visiable

Today I googled this plate description and found the phantomplate and some other radar detector sites.

Just trying to get a feel for how many of us use this or some type anti-radar/photo device.

i work for a laser radar company:
-most LDR's can work 700-500 meters off if the car is reflective.

first the cop goes for the license plate. most plates in n america have a reflective paint on them. repaint these with a matching color.

if no love from the license plate the cop will aim for the head lights. re tractable headlights are not in vogue these days.

sometimes the windshield and or interror components will work

if there is too much slope the hood surface the laser will not lock

when the car is really close the LDR will usally find something from the front of the car, if not, as it passes, the cop can tag your ass end. usally the surfaces are flat there. pay attention to detail and it may let a radar detector do its job.

put emissive ir led's in multiple areas, L&R headlight, license plate. this will help .

a cop with a LDR is trying to tag cars for speeding on streets with alot of trafic, otherwise they will use rf radar. if your car is less reflective than the one next by you win. especially at the longer distances out. all this is hard to argue when you and the cop are the only ones on the street tho.

No front plate saved my ass a couple of times in the HOV lane of the I-90 bridge. Dirty bike like to hide over the crest and pop up to tag you.

For all you ppl who have to use front plates, is there any way to mount them so they face down, at a 30 degree angle or so? Maybe bend them in under the bracket? They are still visible, but any reflections would shoot into the grouns instead of straight back.

I had an old Subaru wagon that I decided to snow plow with (read: no snow plow) and it bent my plate at a 30 angle. It looked weird but I didn't care.

I don't know if this will help you getting out of tickets, but if the cop asks and you are in a northern state, just say you hit a snow bank and it bent the plate.

In Japan, alot of the cars there have front plates which are mounted at a very steep angle. I'm not sure if this is for looks or functionality but I'm sure there would be a JDM plate holder for our cars. I'm positive that I saw this in the Rev speed mag for the S2000.

What about the front plate bracket that would fold the plate into the grill when you approach 30 mph or so?
