Philosophical question about taking out the trash....
Ok guys.... say you live in an apartment with roommates, and you alternate duties such as taking out the trash, unloading dishwasher, vacuuming etc....
One day, the guy whose job it is to take out the trash (we'll call him Guy A) decides to take out the trash (from the kitchen). At that very moment, another roommate (Guy B) takes his personal *bathroom* waste paper basket and manages to catch Guy A in time before he goes out the door to walk across the street to dump the trash, and dumps his bathroom waste paper basket into Guy A's tall kitchen bag.
Guy A suddenly claims that he is doing a favor for Guy B. Guy B disagrees with this because Guy A was on his way out to take out the trash anyway and that's his job. Guy A is the type of guy that likes to do favors so that he can eventually collect on them. Guy B knows this and is hoping Guy A doesn't see this as a "favor" because he doesn't want to have to "owe" him something for doing what is his job in the first place!
What do you think? Is this a favor to Guy B? Vote yes or no, and post your reasons.

Contrary to the poll results (as premature as it may be with 2 votes), Guy B has since succumbed to Guy A's well-worded arguments in his favor. So ....... no matter how many times you guys vote for Guy B, I have come to realize that Guy A is indeed doing Guy B a favor.

In fact I would argue that Guy B was in fact doing Guy A a favour by catching Guy A before he went outside the door. Surely Guy B would have been well within his rights to just dump his bathroom waste paper basket in the location of the missing kitchen waste bin as this is Guy A's responsibility, or once it had been performed does it then rotate to Guy C, better check that small print on the agreement Guys
I said Guy A is just doing his job and no favor was involved. Why? Because it's only common courtesy to assist someone if you're going to do something anyways. I don't consider it a "favor" to pick up a chocolate bar for my wife at the store if I'm going to pick up something for myself. I'd be going there anyway and in this case, Guy A isn't even going out of his way to do something for Guy B. He's just carrying a teeny bit more weight - if he's a wimp or weakling, I can see it as a favor but otherwise, no favor there.
I have 2 roommates who do not take out the trash at all unless the other 3 roommates specifically tell them to take out the trash. Guy A is doing the favor because that is Guy B's personal "bathroom" trash, which is gross...I just hope next year after UCI accepts me (please!!!) my roommates who are good friends can come to agreement on very very simple problems.

This is about as silly as it gets. Is there a bathroom for each guy? If not then A is simply doing his job. I empty all the trash into the garbage bag that is going into the dumpster. (We have a 5 Cubic Footer on wheels) So what's the big deal. Like someone else said A & B need to get a life.
Guy A should get married to Gal C. After that Gal C will tell Guy A to empty the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, etc. trash. If Guy A refuses/forgets, he will regret it for a long time. This will leave Guy A wishing for the good old days when Guy A and Guy B cooperated.

BTW, Guy B is kinda mad at Guy A right now because Guy A falsely accused Guy B of leaving the front door unlocked & ajar in the morning. Guy B has a habitual routine of locking the door as he leaves and he has a good memory too. Guy A never even stopped to consider the possibilities of how Guy C and Gal A could be the culprits. I HATE THAT. Er... I mean Guy B hates that.
