Default Photography majors

Well I have been deciding for quite some time as to what I want to do with my life and I am slowly saying F the conventional path and shooting for something that makes me happy, even if income is in question there are just some things money can't buy. I was considering being a photography major but I did not know what it was like, I am not very good with camera technology, developing or formiliar with the art of it all, all I know is I am facinated with pictures, they can keep me busy for hours just looking at them, like the general photography threads, and I know that I love to take them but really don't know what it takes, to snap a good shot, what defines it etc etc. I would like to learn but did not know if this was a major like music where with zero background you are pretty much shooting for the stars. I know there are a couple of good photographers on this forum and who knows maybe I will attract some input, I would also like to know about the major it self, what is typically related or required for a degree in it, what's the good and the bad and the awsome because we all know you may LOVE something but there are some sucky classes you have to take, just looking for some help.

honestly, your major is not going to be what you do for the rest of your life. Some people in technical fields or medical fields use their major in their job every day, but most people get a degree in whatever sounded easiest, then get a job, another job, another job, and eventually, they are doing something entirely different than what they "went to school for." Communications majors setting up IT equipment, English majors running software QA departments, art majors running a mortgage department, philosophy majors selling insurance, it all really doesn't have anything to do with your major.

But you have to get down to doing it, without worrying about "the rest of your life," or you will still be here ten years from now saying you are "thinking of XYZ major, what does everyone think?"

BTW, just as there are somethings money can't buy, there are some things money CAN buy, and the opportunity to pursue your passions later in life is one of them. It's all well and good to say "f' the conventional path," when you haven't even begun going down it. But you might give yourself a chance to see why it is "conventional" before locking yourself out. Getting some sort of degree will leave that door open, and might even show you something you didn't think was possible.
