Photopoint UPDATE! Pics not lost!?
Look what I found tonight. I was also a member of photopoint, they claim that the pics are still avilable. But they want money for them now.

this should be terms for a class action lawsuit against photopoint.
they charged everyone (me included) for a service that they did not fulfill, and now to get the photos that were... maybe owned ?... by members, they want more money? I can understand the hardware and labor costs to burn cd's but this is quite unacceptable.
if anyone has the means of organizing one, I dont think it would be a problem to gather up more disgruntled ex-paid-photopoint members.

After they took our money and then closed down we would be stupid to pay them again in hopes that they would give us back what we paid them to keep safe for us. I did lose a few photos that I didn't have on disk and that pisses me off but no way am I giving these jerks more money.
Photopoint has no money to sue for. So organizing a lawsuit against them couldn't get you anything. I'm just surprised that so many people used photopoint as the only storage place for their digital pictures.
Here's some interviews with the founder of photopoint explaining the situation and the decision. They're not making money off of these backup CD's. They don't even have any servers left to do this with. They're paying another company to restore from backup and produce the CD's.

All is not lost, maybe he learned something:
"...only grow within your means..."
"ClubPhoto was another small startup shortly after PhotoPoint, and seemed to pursue a more steady, gradual growth; they're still around and reporting profitability, which is awesome. In retrospect, I wish we had taken that approach instead of going with the larger VC funding."
hmm, what a novel concept.
