Pistol safe and the S2k
Has anybody mounted a pistol safe in their S2k? I'm debating trying to put one under my seat...one of these:
Vline deskmate
at 2.5 inches tall, it just might fit. I've got the CCW permit, but I would feel more secure knowing that if a criminal were to break into my car that they would not walk away with a new weapon (should I have left said firearm in the car whilst entering a no-firearm zone.)
I know there was a thread on a similar topic before, but it seemed to have quickly devolved into a pro- vs. anti-gun (or CNN vs FOX?!?) mud slinging fest, so let's keep this one clean. (i.e If you don't have any input into how to secure a firearm inside an S2k in such a manner that it is unlikely to be purloined in the course of a break-in, please do not post here.) If you have anti-firearm ideas to share, please simply write me off as a gun-toting redneck who is utterly disappointed that the S2k will not accomadate a gun rack of sufficient size for a compound bow, a shotgun, and a 6-pack of Natural Lite and go happily on your way. Also feel free to assume that I do not have a state-issued front license plate but that I did install the frame so that I could attach a "Dale Earnhardt #3" novelty plate. With these facts behind you, surely this post is not worth the time it would take you to respond.
I realize the "secret compartment" could be a viable option, however it is quite slow to reach should the firearm be stored there in the event of an incident where its use might be required; thus I would prefer a secured location more readily accessible.
Oh, and for those who require more information, I am interested because I frequently work in areas that have high crime rates (hospitals in "unsavory" parts of town) yet do not allow me to carry my firearm at work. Meaning I find myself driving through parts of town most would do best to avoid at very late/early hours. And to the liberals still reading, I work at these places because I choose to serve those less fortunate than myself....yet I have had more unfriendly and ungrateful confrontations with that population that I would care to recount.
My apollogies for the long post there. Just attempting to head off the near-inevitable quoting of uncited sources that will most likely ensue. And it doing so, it seems as if the length of this little epistle will likely head off any productive responses as well. Irony?

I've been mulling this over as well.
I think my solution is going to be a Kydex holster mounted under the seat (either a Comp-Tac or a Blade-Tech), combined with a device similar to the one you're talking about bolted in the trunk.
Even with this option, however, there are multiple drawbacks - chief among them is getting to the weapon quickly enough. Several holster makers make a "driving holster," (Mitch Rosen, Kramer, etc.) which might help inasmuch as ready access to the weapon is concerned while seated in the car. This would be my choice if I carried a slightly smaller pistol.
I would be very hesitant to have to go through a complex (under stress, everything's complex) process to get to a weapon - therefore I can't recommend that you mount that device under your seat...it's just too slow and cumbersome to use if/when you'll actually need it.
