Plaxo = Spyware ????
Anyone ever use Plaxo to keep you Outlook contacts current?
http://www.plaxo.com/
I just got a message from a friend asking me for updated info via Plaxio and went to their site, I'm havin' a tough time figuring out the angle.
As far I can tell there is no fee for this service, although you do have to download the free software. Next, you send a message to everyone in your address book asking them to update their contact info. As people respond, your Outlook contacts list is automatically updated by the Plaxio service.
It's a great idea, but a little to good to be true? Any ideas?

Guess where Plaxo gets the email addresses they sell to spammers?
Actually, after reading their white papers, they claim they don't do anything with the data they shuffle around, but why would you let some unknown 3rd party have access to your address book? Seems like a recipe for trouble, even if these guys are just providing a legit free service, which I have trouble believing. Either they plan on charging once they have enough users to make real money, or they plan on selling the data they have collected. Either way, it is not really useful unless everyone you know uses it, and if everyone used it, the potential for abuse would be astronomical.
