1. You're an old fart.

2. It seems like her songs are pretty well crafted, even if you don't like XYZ particular thing about it. Also (probably using some studio trickery), it comes across to me like she's got a reasonably dark voice.

3. The song you're pointing out is nothing but a bunch of good Motown tricks, why SHOULDN'T it be a hit maker the second time around?

4. The song is basically alcohol-infused pseudo-nihlism; the kids have always liked that sort of thing.

 

There are plenty of famous idiots out there that make me wonder why they are so popular. When I was younger I didn't give much damn about them earning so much $$, but now that I feel so many celebrities don't even deserve to earn that much $$ and while there are ppl suffering and starving to death they are wasting money on everything. Oh well, that's the market tho..

FYI, her "popular song" is just one on an album. See kids, there's this thing called an "album." On it, there is more than one song. When people say they "like" a particular musician, they are often referring to the body of work, not specifically and only the lyrics to one single song that is played on the radio. If you've only heard that one song, and that song defines the artist for you, then you don't know enough about the musician's work to make an informed judgement. Which is fine. But at least admit your judgement is based on personal music taste, appearance, rumors, and entertainment fluff, and not on the body of work.

You don't like her music, fine. Is there something wrong with you? Are you really that stupid? If you think those questions are unfair, consider how you come across.

Chances are VERY good you really like some musicians I think are purveyors of total crap. But I'm not going to assume you must be incredibly stupid to like what you like.
