Default Please learn from my carelessness...

I'm usually very good about protecting my eyes - sight is the most critical sense we have, IMO.

Today I was in a rush - I had to get to an appointment but wanted to mod the airbox by cutting the divider and removing the "L" on top of the lid. Forgot to put on glasses. Of course the one time I forget the cutting wheel disintegrates. A piece went flying up - struck me right in the cornea.

Hurt a bit - I flushed out my eye with saline. Called one of my friends who happens to be an eye doc. He takes a look at my eye in a slit lamp (biomicroscope) and sees a piece of the f#cking disc embedded in my cornea!

Had the eye numbed and he removed the debris. Luckily it didn't go too deep and should heal without any long term vision loss.

Wear eye protection!

WOW! Sounds painful and yet you were somewhat lucky.

I was dumb. I AM lucky! I instilled the antibiotic drops he prescribed for me and my vision is better this morning.

Will get it checked out this afternoon but I think it's going to be fine. Whew!

That brings me to one of my pet peeves. Why is it that people go to their dentist faithfully 2x/year yet rarely see their eye docs?

To me - eyesight is far more precious than teeth!

Where I work, this happens a couple times per month, even with eye protection. You just go to the clinic, a nurse pries out the sliver of steel with a needle, and then back to work!

Oh yeah, this is at Newport News Shipbuilding.....
