Politcal posters = garbage!!!
It's election time again and the landscape is cluttered with those sickening posters. Does anyone feel like me and think these should be abolished? It's bad enough we have to see their ads on TV, but just how important is it to have these ugly signs stapled here and stuck in the ground there? Just think how much extra space is taken up in landfills when the election is over and the signs are taken down.
I voted for Stay. They're unsightly and can be annoying, but personally I'd rather see the TV ads go away. They are an effective means for a small-time politician to get his name out. Does anyone really believe a single word uttered in a TV political ad? I really hope not.
I heard about those TV ads you have in the US...
How does it work? can richer politicians buy more TV screening time than the poorer ones?
I think political posters should be allowed, but that everyone should have a equal amount of space to put them, otherwise it becomes pure advertising, and the wealthier people will have more chances of getting their message across... I guess I'm daydreaming anyway

le car, the American political system is purely money based. Presidential candidates will begin building a "war chest" 2 or more years before the actual election, and due to our crappy election laws politicians are allowed to run as many ads as they want (can afford to).
There have been efforts to get TV and radio ad time to be made "free" for all candidates (similar to how much of Europe does it), so that the relative size of the candidate's treasury doesn't affect the outcome. In the end though, the wealthier politicians (treasury wise, not personal income) tend to be the powerful ones in office, and they are loathe to change a system that favors them.
