Polygamy Musings
my dear wife notices just about every single eye movement and body language i make when we go out, and it doesn't help matters when i have a wondering eye (and a sharp one at that), which i must admit must be out of my more amorous nature
she questioned why men (most men) wouldn't want to stay with just one woman. i gave it some thought, and gave her the best Discovery Channel/The Learning Channel answer: because men are not designed to practice monogamy in the first place. i explained, with the help of the Discovery and The Learning Channel's nature videos, that it's in a male's best interest to spread his genes in as many places as possible. the changes in the world's various societies and the vast influence of christianity over the past few centuries has shaped our society today, as a result, most countries in the world have outlawed polygamy.
"but yet men still look at other women, or even cheat, right?"
i commented that it's most likely the animal nature of men, but we're the only animal (that i'm aware of) who can control their own mating urges relatively successfully. she still doesn't get it.
i have wondering eyes
, but i don't think i can be like my great-grandfather who had one official wife and many concubines. he was, as my dad put it, a man among men
what are your views on polygamy aside from the obvious legal and religious issues? i have heard some weird arguments ranging from economics to family preservation.
just another off-topic...er...topic.

Number 1: Screwing around ain't polygamy. Polygamy is keeping around a bunch of wives and it usually requires repressive laws or young under-educated women to pull it off. It's rather ugly in practice, I think.
Polygamy makes screwing around look upstanding, if you ask me.

it's natural to want to spread your genes to as many places possible. that's one of the highest responsibilites of man, is to continue the species. Both polygamy and monogamy are found in nature, however the number of polygamous species far outweighs the number of monogamous species.
The Asmat in Indonesia practice bisexual polygamous relationships, with men having male lovers and each man also allowed to have female wives. Explain that with repressive laws or young under-educated women?
Now, I can barely handle the one woman I have now
Four wives don't fit in the stook at once!!

Polygamy is identified most closely with the Church of Latter Day Saints, or the Mormons. They adopted this practice for practical as well as religious reasons. The old Testament did not proscribe the practice, and it was a solution to a problem that arose during the treck across country to the Great Salt Lake basin.
A great number of men died during the arduous journey, resulting in a higher number of women than men once the trip was completed. The remaining men took multiple wives to solve this problem, including Brigham Young, who had many wives and sired scores of children.

I'm more curious on the sex issue.....as a guy, it would be nice to sow all the oats I could. However, would I want my wife to do the same? Hell no. Double standard....I want my cake & eat it too!
