Pond Gurus
I have had ponds for about 5 years, and this year decided to renovate my back yard. I ended up with approx 1500 gallon pond 22inches deep. In my part of the world the seasons are short and we spend more time buying crap to fix the algae problems.
My current set up is a dynatec 2250 gallon/per hour pump, pulling from a pail full of media. I don't have the beneficial bacteria going I suspect and the balance is off.
8 gold fish, 6 inches long
Next year I will inherit my dad's dynatec UV and his pump, but until then, the fight continues.
The current problem is green water. The pond setup has been running since May, but now we are having hot temps. The goal is to find the balance of the water, and I am struggling with this, because most people in the pet shops have no idea.
I have bought a bag of zeolite (quite fine chunks) and want to put this in a nylon sock and put it in the pail for a few days. My question is how much zeolite for a 1500 gallon pond. The information on the net doesn't help me.
Maybe we need a home and garden sub forum

On a serious note, who was the guy on here that has a 20k gallon koi pond in his yard that overlooks the world? I bet he knows the answers.

that is far from the truth. I know a little about a lot of things and that makes me more of a danger to myself and those around me than anything else. It is my nature to have an opinion on just about everything though

I hope you were kidding around and don't think I come across as some kind of asshole or something. LOL
I know nothing of ponds....
that link above seems to be the guy to go to for answers.
What does the zeolite in a sock do?
My ponds are MUCH larger (stock ponds really) but algae and hydrilla are issues. It seems that I can't use copper sulfate since that will kill the fish.
Ha. Ha. My goldfish are bigger than yours. Try 5-8 lbs each. They are bigger than the perch/bass or catfish, but then my ponds are only a little over a year old.

If you can't use copper the only tools available to you are to change the C/N/P ratios. Set up some shade to the South-SW using shrubs or shade cloth to reduce the amount of sunlight coming in. Get some biofilm starter (aquatic eco is fine), run a real bioball filtration system, change the water out frequently or run a full exchange system.
Zeolite never did anything for me.
