I got a surprise phone call from my Dad over the weekend. He saw a add in a local paper for a 1967 corvette coupe, single owner garage kept. I was the second person he called after he read the add, the first was to the owner to get directions to his house. By the time I made it home from Saturday's auto-x he had drivin to the guys house and left a check.

He went back Sunday to pick up the car. He told me that while he was at the guy's house the phone did not stop ringing.

The owner was an older gentleman. He lives close to, but not in Trenton NJ, that's Charlie's corner of the state. I'm not too familiar with the towns down there. My father cut him a check for exactly what he was offering, got the car started and got it out of there as fast as he could.

I got to see it last night and all I can say is Wow!. The paint is flawless, the chrome and the wheels are beautiful. No pitting no dents.

So, original owner, 67 coupe, 350 ( I know but you take what you can get ), automatic ( not my first choice but somewhat rarer ), interior is in great shape, all for $22,000. Based on the condition this car is in I'm sure that is below market value.

Any other vette owners out there? What do you think of this deal?

Being a former owner of a 70 vette and familiar with prices it can vary depending on options.

The 350, auto wouldnt be considered rare car but if it is unrestored (survivor) and in the shape you claim, it is a excellent price.

Even if it was a restored car it sill is a fair price I would imagine a car like that would be in the 25-27k range depending on condition and also a very important factor is that the numbers match on the car.

Now a 67' 427 roadster is what I crave.

Its like anything else its worth whatever anyone is willing to pay for it.

Geez Tom we gotta hang out with your Dad...... lets see 01 Boxster S and now a 67 Vette. Life must be good in the Labetti household.

The big deal on 'vettes is #'s matching (GM numbered every part with the vin#) , on the engine, clutch, trans, differential, etc, and originality. Get a copy of the Corvette "Black Book" for a quick # reference. Useful items include the tank sticker or "build sheet" which will indicate original equipment and #'s, any historical info including old photo's, copies of the past vehicle titles, and other stuff. Start gathering as much documentation as you can and build a historical notebook. Any restoration should always be done according to original condition. There is a great 63-67 guide for this. These cars are a lot of fun and always draw a stare, but handle like pigs, and are really just for a Saturday night cruise. As for the cost, sounds like a pretty good deal, depending on the above factors. A tri-powered 427 (435hp) convertable, well, that's going to set you back some scratch!

My dad had a 66 427 conv vette.....maroon... also had a blue '54 that someone shoehorned a 327 w/ a stickshift into it...he said it was in the 11's...he had both of them at the same time in '66 along with a '65 GTO.... his parents spoiled him....i am still waiting to be spoiled... i had a '79 ford fiesta that i had to pay for myself!

I have pics of the '54 somewhere.

I figured you might chime in on this one Charlie after seeing your collection of vette die-cast models.

I'd say the old guy is going through I mid-life crisis, but that's what I said 15 years ago when he picked up his first vette, a 64 convertible. Its another 350 automatic. Or 10 years ago when he bought the '69 mustang convertible he found under a tarp when he went to visit my grandparents ( his parents ) in their retirement community in Florida. I guess he just likes cars.

So now his garages are overstocked,
A red 64 vette automatic 350 convertible.
The new red/black 67 vette automatic 350 coupe.
A white/blue 69 stang, automatic, 302 I believe.
The 01 Boxster S.

A friend of his asked me which one I like to drive the most. I said I don't know, I haven't touched any of them since I bought my s2k last March.

I'd love to take any of them out for a day, but sunny day's have been in short supply around here and as of now those days are reserved for the StooK.

Give your dad a break on the midlife crisis business. If he can afford the toys, he deserves them.
