portable f20c-themed grill?
sup s2ki fam,
[cliffs below]
The other day I was grilling with a $7.99 portable bucket grill from Osh Hardware. Unfortunately, it is starting to fall apart from repeat daily use.
Instead of buying another portable grill, I decided to assemble my own, due to no sheet metal/welding experience and limited funds. I also thought it would be more fun that way
. It would have to meet the following criteria:
- portable (s2k daily = space limited))
- easy to set up ( 5 minutes max)
- lightweight (no more than 20 lbs.)
- able to cook for two people at once
- has to be quality (diy craftmanship)
- burns charcoal
- has to be "JDM"
After a bit of brainstorming and part searching, I have come up with a 70% done solution...
mission: the f20g(rill)
- body: about 1x1 lock box (gutted)
- grill: custom-fit cast iron (?)
- carrier/stand: magazine rack (?)
- draft blocker: top of satellite receiver box (thanks DirectTV!)
- griddle plate: random piece of sheet metal that fit
- sear plate: smaller piece from Charbroil two-part sear plate kit
- handles: bathroom
It grills chicken wings/mini-drumsticks and skirt steaks well, haven't tried anything else yet.
Ok, enough about the description. If you're still reading this, THANK YOU, now on to the part you have been waiting for
!

(pre-made tilt perfect for grease)
At this moment, it has poor airflow and a max temp of 300f. Trying to fix these issues now.
It is my summer 2013 diy project, has been on my mind for too long, so I need to get it done ASAP!

- I'm planning to paint the lid wrinkle-red, and the body wrinkle-grey. Any hi-temp paint suggestions?
- I'm aware that sandblasting is needed. Any anti-rust/grill/interior/exterior paint suggestions?
- Anyone else ever do a similar semi-homemade grill project? If so, any advice on the above?
Thanks in advance!
