Thumbs up positive feedback or nah?

i'm kinda on the fence on whether or not to give a seller on ebay a positive feedback or not...this is the situation: bought a brand new macbook pro (late 2008) from the seller through Buy It Now and recieved it today. Shipping was about 4 days or so and they communicated with me quickly and answered my questions that I had asked.

The thing is, I got the laptop today and fired it up, and there was one single dead pixel on the screen in the middle/right of the screen that was tiny, but is considered a defect. I decided since the computer still comes with a one year manufacturer's warranty which goes by the serial number and build date, that I'd bring it in to the apple store instead of dealing with sending the computer back to the seller and having to ship and wait for something i could not see before i got it.

I ended up going to the apple store in freehold mall and getting a brand new macbook pro after waiting a good amount of time, but having the issue resolved in the end.

Noww, if the seller sold me a brand new macbook, and it looks as though they never opened the box up, do I address this in the feedback or should I just email them privately and let them know what I went through? I don't know what I should do, what you guys think?

lol.., but i wouldn't consider them a negative seller.. i'd probably write up somethin nice if i were you but point out the dead pixel at the same time.......

just be honest though, if it bugs you that much then write something negative

If on the fence, then give a neutral rating. Geez! It's so simple.

i think its best to write them a private email about the situation. but in the end, you did get a brand new one anyways. it wasnt the sellers fault, it was brand new in box and unopened. he couldnt have known.

Some laptops and monitors come with dead pixels. Could be due to many things, but I would say it is not the seller's fault.

Since you took it to the Apple store and exchanged it, the seller was not involved. Therefore, the feedback should be positive IMO. Everything you went through WITH THE SELLER was good, no?

Regardless of what happened afterward, since you did not contact the seller and deal with it that way, I personally believe a positive feedback should be warranted.

Dead pixels are a standard. You are very lucky Apple took care of you, because they didn't have to. I forgot the exact number, but LCDs are allowed to have a certain number of dead pixels as "standard." My friend that bought a $4000 Alienware setup found out the hard way. He had 4 dead pixels, and they denied him a new monitor. The seller has absolutely nothing to do with this, they didn't build the laptop.

yeah, you guys all bring up valid points. the seller really did everything they needed to do on their part, and it just turned out that I happened to get a bad apple (no pun intended lol) so i guess i'll just end up sending them an e-mail telling them what happened, but leaving them a positive feedback.

I really wasn't sure that Apple was gonna help me out, seeing that I did not buy it from an Apple store, and apparently the seller had purchased it in an Apple retail store in Canada! They found the original receipt for it through the serial number so all was good... But man, it was super packed yesterday in the store. I don't know if it was just because of Black Friday, but there was just a shit ton of people in there non-stop, and I ended up sitting at the Genius Bar (that's what they call their help desk) for an hour cuz I missed my name being called lol

As I sat their observing how these guys worked, for the most part they were just replacing every damn thing that was faulty with a new one!! I think i saw about 4-5 iphones and 2 ipods being replaced with new ones under warranty and the one dude said that it's easier just to replace than to fix um so they must be making money like crazy if they can afford that kinda QC.

And yeah, they really could have denied me a new computer easily. The guy said that if the one he opens for me next happens to have a fault in the screen, then they may not consider another replacement...Ironically, the second one was fine, but he asked if i would like to swap hard drives so that my info that I had registered earlier in the day would be on my new machine... so he puts an older install disk in the new computer and ends up getting it stuck on some load screen for like 20 minutes! So I was in the store for about 2 hours overall, and he just ended up getting me a third macbook that finally just worked lmao

it's been a really weird first experience with my macbook pro thus far, but overall, in the short time i've spent with the notebook, it's definitely pretty damn nice, especially it being my first laptop. It's got little features with the trackpad like swiping 3 fingers horizontally to go forward or back a webpage, and just little things that are making me like it more and more... Coming from a pc guy, i recommend you give a mac a try if you get the opportunity.

Thanks for the help -Andre

i'd say positive feedback and email the guy separately.
you said the box didnt look like it was opened to begin with. so the seller did sell you a brand new laptop and shipped it as promised.

apple is pretty good with warranty, i brought my macbook pro cuz my battery wouldnt charge. they gave me a brand new battery even though my macbook was about year past my warranty.
