Is this possible?
Since you have photographic evidence...I would say it probably is possible...as to the why:
The guy saves ~$50 large on a truck and trailer to haul him/gear/stuff to events...just thinking out loud here...

The reason the owner do that is this viper is going to one lap of Amercia race.
You can know that from the big event sticker on the door.
You can't pack all spare parts, wheel, tools and personal belongings for a week in the tiny space on that viper.
A trailer is a sensible solution with the rules saying that
you cannot bring a support vechile.
Many club racer do that when they want to be economic or they don't had an pickup to haul a containner to transport their racecar.

Heh. This car has more torque and hp than, I dunno, maybe 90% of the private tow vehicles out there. (Suburbans, Explorers, etc.) What's the big deal? Like wileecoyote said, it's the only way to comply with the race's rules.
There's a local autocrosser here that has a trailer hitch on his S2000 so that he can transport his race tires to the track. I'm planning on doing the same thing some day. Driving for long distances on race tires with no tread is expensive and just ain't practicla. *shrug*
