vader1 and 2005s2k: how bad do keeshonds shed?
I am gonna disagree a little here. They can shed a lot. They blow their under coat once a year. They need at least thorough weekly brushing which can take 1/2 hour to do correctly to keep the coat nice. Like all animals, they shed when they get scared or nervous and mine is scared of riding in the car so he sheds quite a bit in the car. Even with regular brushing which will control most of it, I have dog hair everywhere in my house.

Having said that, they are just the greatest dogs ever. I have had a few in my life but I will be a keeshond owner for life. Very smart. Very gentle. Loves people, loves kids, would NEVER EVER bite anybody (even if an attacker were stabbing me to death). If you are someone that wants a "tough guy dog" this is not it, they act like the fuzzballs they are. The downside is they bark and shed. But If I could care for them properly I would have a dozen of them running around my house. And yeah, good ones are expensive.

Vader... Does your dog shed a lot? I fully agree on the blowing the coat thing but typically mine does not leave hair in my s2k or in the house that is as noticable as my friend's German Shepard mix. It may be since the other dog's hair is a lot coarser. We have one of those Dyson pet vacuums and have a fairly large house, it does pick up quite a bit but he is all over the house too. It is not as bad as I would have thought for such a fluffy dog though... I'll revise my statement, he does not shed as bad as I thought he would have .

I am trying to train him not to bark at people he doesn't know and might be making some progress...

Here is the seahorse tank that was setup in my room (37 gallon). The tank is now torn down (I moved) and will be setup again soon. Not a reef tank, just a simple low maintenance sw tank with polyps, soft corals and sponges. Lighting is a modified Eclipse tank cut for a Remora skimmer and T5 lighting.

He leaves the long "guard hairs" everywhere. On my bed, the furniture, the carpet. My vacuum makes the carpet look clean but when I use the steam cleaner, there are huge wads of hair that come up that you never knew existed.

True, I have seen short hair dogs that shed far more and short hair can be so much hard to pick up than long wispy ones, but he still leaves them all over the house. My dog could shed three times as much and I still would not trade him. I have given up on trying to make hiimn bark less, very vocal breed.
