It can take several hours for semen to reach an egg... assuming she was ovulating. May take up to a day. From there, the egg must plant itself in the right spot in order to produce the kid. I believe it's just a case of a few days for the body to realise its pregnant, and to start producing hormones which can be detected by a pregnancy kit.

The body will start to show signs within 4 days of any sperm entering her. So it would be safe to say within 5-7 days afterwards would tell you.
