Default Are the prices of gas going up in your area?

Someone called at work and said gas was up to $2.50 a gallon here (it was 1.37/gal last night for unleaded 87). I hate the price gouging these gas stations are doing, it should be illegal

Industry Says Fuel Supplies Are Normal

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The American Petroleum Institute, which represents the U.S. oil industry, sought to reassure the public on Tuesday that supplies of gasoline and other fuels would not be disrupted in the wake of the attacks on New York's World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

But some officials at the state level and in the U.S. Congress expressed concern about reports of steep price hikes at the gasoline pump in the hours after the attacks.

``All information we have tells us that fuels are flowing normally to wholesale and retail markets throughout the United States. Our most recent data indicate that gasoline and diesel fuel inventories are adequate to meet demand. Refinery production remains strong,'' the API said in a brief statement.

Mississippi Attorney General Mike Moore said in a statement his office ``has received numerous complaints that gasoline sellers and suppliers are immediately raising their prices on the gas they are selling.''

``Some instances of doubling and tripling of prices have been reported. This type (of) irresponsible and greedy behavior will not be tolerated. This gouging of our citizens in a time of national emergency will not go without redress.''

U.S. Rep. Ronnie Shows, a Mississippi Democrat, said his office also was fielding reports of gasoline price hikes in his congressional district or nearby.

``I cannot begin to fathom the reports I am hearing about possible price gouging,'' Shows said in a statement. ``If price gouging is going on, if there are those who would seek a quick material profit by playing on the emotions and concerns of the American people, then I assure everyone I will go after these people. I cannot imagine such callousness.''..........................

I thought it was an error in price when someone mentioned it last night!

My God, this will cripple the economy if it actually goes up and stays that way.

It can't be completely ruled out because all transports have been cut off.

The govoner of Mississippi (my state) declared a state of emergency so that the state attourney general can go after gas stations that price gouge. Texaco stations went up a dime here, but shell, conoco, amoco, and the others all had the same prices they had before the WTC hit, which was between 1.29 - 1.39 a gallon. Texaco is up to 1.43. I guess I won't be gassing up at Texaco anymore.

It's human nature, everyone just wants to make a quick buck these days. After all, one man's tragedy is another man's fortune. This is just life.

The price here actually went DOWN $.01 since last night! Not a big savings, but at least they didn't go up.

Gas prices are the same in the Bay Area. No price gouging here.

All transports have been cut off ? WTF ? What government official said that ? Or is that just a rumor ?

Once everything gets back to normal, I suggest you guys never ever buy gasoline from those gouging stations again.

Just let them rot and go under.

They are trying to profit off of this horrendous disaster.

Screw them.
