I wrote this whole LOL message to this thread basically and then Add Reply brought me to the main Add Reply area. Oh well.
Condensed version, don't even think for a minute you can go read a book, or take a class, and make some money on the side. No offense, if you were gifted already, you wouldn't have made this thread. And you wouldn't have thought about C++ if you wanted to develop web apps.
I'm a little gruff, I must admit, but application development must be one job that everyone things they can just "do". You know, that, and being the coach of a professional sports franchise. If you think you'd have a passion for software development, please, jump in. Go take a programming languages class so you know what they are all about, and then grab some books, join some online communities, and start writing some bad code so you can eventually write some good code. Oh, and find some good code, and read it. Learning from good code is extremely valuable. And then, once you've realized this shit ain't easy, put more work in and then get that side job. Good luck.
I don't think I'm a chef because I can read a couple of recipes and cobble dinner together.
