what does being a rapper have anything to do with it? he didn't get shot because of hip hop. he didn't shoot 'ole boy because of hip hop. putting more thought into it, i don't think his celebrity was that much of a factor either. people get into arguments-- sometimes nothing happens, other times there is violence. why is your occupation the cause of your death if you didn't die on the job? off the top of my head, this stigma is only associated with rappers, and hip hop.

Because on his cd's, his lyrics remind you what he'll do to you if you disrespect him, what he's done to others to hurt them that have crossed him, and how tough he and his crew are. Some guys see this and go, **** that, my crews not weaker than he is, he is from the same place I am from, I'll show him who's who, and generally, just start problems. Its similar, on a much smaller scale, to how the kids on the real world in Dallas had to deal with so much fighting in clubs because of the guys that wanted to bring down whoever was in the "spot light" and getting attention at the time. Except, his lyrics help bring the trouble and attention to him, and the fact that he's hanging out somewhere shady like a should be closed club on 8mile.

Dont be so quick to judge, if you listend to either d12 album you would know that 99% of what they say is humor. They even joke about people taking them seriously.
Really? His arrest record doesn

You think he was arrested for all those crimes while grocery shopping with his elderly grandmother? Give me a break...

No, I wasn't a witness to a gangster shooting at a nightclub in Detroit. But plenty of other people were. Here's what they say:

Detroit police said they were told by witnesses that Etheridge shot Proof early Tuesday after Proof shot Army veteran Keith Bender inside a nightclub in a strip of businesses along Eight Mile Road.
Investigators believe Proof was shot after he pistol-whipped and shot Bender following a fight at the club around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday -- more than two hours after the nightclub was required to close for the night.

"The understanding of every witness we've spoken to is that Proof pulled out a weapon," Upshaw said. "Proof shot Keith in the face and Keith was unarmed."
Why are you defending him? It's Etheridge who's under investigation. And here's what the police say about him:
If Proof was shot by someone trying to protect himself or another, the shooter will not be charged, police Sgt. Eren Stephens said.

im really trying to be impartiial. it is plausible that proof may have shot that guy in self defense...we don't know. so to me, to saying that this man was a menace to society(paraphrasing), and deserved to die is a presumptuous, callous, and a little self-righteous.

Violence has nothing to do with real hip-hop!

Real hip-hop consist of four elements:

Breaking

MC ing

Dj ing

Graffiti Art.

All this other crap people are doing and how the media and those that don't know the true origins, are associating this as being hip-hop to define a culture. And thus taking hip-hop out of context. Using the name in vain if you will.

Gangster rap and hip-hop are two different things. I admit it is hard for some people to distinguish between the two but if you go back through the history of rap and it's origin you will find that what I am saying is not BS.

And please no flaming just voicing my opinion.

You took the time to post here why????????
For two reasons, I got nothing to do at work, and to point out what a waste of time it is to even care about this dude. And to irritate people who say "You just don't know how great D12 was man! Proof was the shiznit!" Like I said, never heard of him and I have heard of losers like Shaggy Too Dope.

I have hundreds of rap cd's that go back to the origins, right up to present day. Sugar Hill Gang, Run DMC, Whodini, UTFO, Afrika Bambata and the Soulsonic Force, Melly Mel, BDP, blahbity blah from day one, right up to a bunch of the garbage that is made today. (I get it for free) Anyone who can listen to Wu Tang clan or the like and think it is deep or means anything needs help. The last talented group with anything to say IMHO was Arrested Development and that was ten years ago at least.

The gangs, drugs and thugs have completely taken over the industry and running around telling abunch of thirteen year old kids to booze it up, smoke blunts, carry a gun, and empty it into someone whenever you can. Dumb. Do I care if the kids do it and turn into cell mate #4512274 or wind up dead? Nope. Do I care if the rap "artist" winds up dead? Nope. If you are dumb enough to fall for this stuff, perfect. Thinning the herd.

The only people that care he is dead are people that look up to him. And the people that look up to him are foolish and wasting their time. When you get past 25, you may discover you dont like the music anymore because it is childish and stupid. Or you may listen occassionally and like a song or two, but not give a rats about the personalities. If you are beyond 25 and still worshipping rap stars then you might need help. Some people cared when Kurt Cobain (sp?) blew his brains out, WHO CARES? Len Bias snorted coke. People die every day, but if it is someone who dies through their own actions, well, then they are just a dumbass and fantasize like you had some sort of personal connection would be stupid. He took you $12 for his last record, bought some dope and some bullets and could not give a rats what happens to you.

We got one of these "Biggie and Tupac are dead" threads every so often half the people said "I never saw it coming." If you ask me, rappers are great dead pool picks. They are constantly around drugs, gangs and weapons and are stupid. The only one that surprised me at all was Jam Master Jay.

I might crank a little 50 Cent at a party to set a mood, but I don't care if he adds to his bullet hole collection.
