Q for DIY home-improvement folks -
i've got a big den w/ a half bath that I want to convert to a full bedroom:

this blueprint is not 100% correct, i dont have the furnace/water heater on that floor, and the bathroom is a lot bigger.
to do list:
1. there is no physical door or a wall, so i want to put up a wall and a door (to make a hallway from teh garage door to the stairs).
2. install a shower stall in the bathroom.
how hard is this project, approx. estimate on costs, what type of door would work best, and how hard is it to reroute the plumbing for the shower stall?? thx!

usally a door to the garage needs to have some sort of fire rating, but that is existing.
any type of door will work, use a sliding door if space is tight. try to keep both doors so they dont conflict or to say the new door from the hall way into the bedroom open into the bedroom against the existing closet wall.

How big is the storage space? Is this on a slab?
Run a wall across the space from the closet to the space where the furnace room is shown, if there is nothing there run it all the way across, you have plenty of room for a swing door. If there is no furnace room that space can be made into a closet.
The storage space and closet can be eliminated to make room for a shower stall. You will need a space to put a trap under the shower floor.
This would be about 5-7K job depending on finishes, complete.
I used to do this for a living, my business was Eyeplay Renovations.
If you want some help planning and spec'ing pm me.
