does anyone know if the one way headset in the quaterback's helmet is live all the time or can the coach just talk to him before and after a play (perhaps just for the duration of the playclock) ?

 

Not sure, but I believe it is from "dead ball" until 5 seconds on the play clock.

 

It's 15 seconds on the play clock.

Anyone know the frequency? I know I would like to wait until the the fourth quarter and say....

Its super super encrypted, and it only works in between plays. I think it goes out after a certain amount of time after the playclock starts. (like 15 seconds from when it starts, and the play clock is 30 so the last 15 seconds are cut off).

It would be bull-ish if they could use it live, just imagine the quarterback knowing someone was coming up behind them to sac the, because the coach told them.
