Default Question - Open truck bed vs Box vehicle

I'm gathering opinions on which vehicle is most suited for "do it yourself" type home projects. For example, fixing up a house, transporting paint, small lumber, tools, etc.

Is it better to drive an open bed pick-up truck or would something like a Honda Element be sufficient?

I have a 87 Toyota Van thats a great beater. If you get a truck, you'd have to remove EVERYTHING every time you went out to the market in it. Also, a van makes a great camper. Nice to be able to reach stuff from inside on long trips. Van Good if rain / snow/ meteors. Van more suitable for passengers even if seats removed. If you have THAT much building supplies, get em delivered.
