Default question for the wireless network experts...

my neighbor recently set up a wireless network, whose signal reaches my house. this gets annoying because when i boot up my computer, my computer picks up this signal, as well as mine, and so asks me which i want to connect to, instead of just automatically connecting to my own network. also, occassionally, my network signal break for whatever reason, and instead of my computer automatically reconnecting to my network, like it has in the past, i once again have to sellect the network to connect to.

so my question is: is there a way to configure my computer, network setting, etc. where my computer automatically and only connects to my network, and ignores all the others that may be in the vincinity??

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you have WinXP. If so, read this: Resolving SSID Conflicts in Windows XP It may not be exactly what you are describing, but the solution they provide will achieve the same goal.

I HATE the built-in wireless networking in XP.

I had this problem before also. I had to reconfigure the card, more precisely, reloaded the program drivers along with the reconfig and it solved my problem. My problem (like yours) started when I tried accessing a neighbor's network... then my card started giving me all available network options instead of using my default. I seem to remember my configs having an option to default a network. See if you can locate the option with your card interface.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but won't WEP encryption solve this?

haha. i wish. his is WEP encryted. but even if it was not, the signal strength is kinda low, meaning i'll be sitting around waiting for web pages to load up like a 56K modem...

obviously not. mine is WEP encrypted and so is his, but still my computer detects and offers a choice of either.
