A question for you computer experts
gosh. u kno u can save more money by turning off ur monitor when not using. itz not like ur gonna use the thing for more than 4 years. the thing becomes obsolete by then. do what i do. leave the comp running 24/7 but turn off the monitor.
I never turn it off except to restart it. As long as it is on standbye when you're not using it, it doesn't hurt a thing.
LCD screens use less power for the hardcore efficient folk. My 18" LCD is rated at 50W full use, <5W in standbye.

Mine has been on for 17 days, 14 hours, and 27 minutes, as of this post. That's according to how long my AIM has been online... 
It's starting to get a bit laggy, but only just - I may have to flush the RAM soon.

Thanks guys for the input. My concern wasn't power consumption but wear and tear on my hard drive, I seem to be burning up a computer every 1-1/2 to 2 years and wasn't sure if it was due my turning it off and on a couple times a day. I now have this one on a hibernate mode so maybe it will help.
