One thing about this board when you ask for advice you get it, tons of it

Always look where you want to go, look ahead in a turn not down at the front of the bike.
Assume everybody on the road wants to kill you except for the cell phone yacking SUV drivers because they don't even know you exist.
Use your head, know your limits, and stay within them.

Scan the classifeds and you will find lots of used sportbikes with hardly any miles on them. That's because people get in over their heads.

Just one thing, guys : on a recent trip to MIAMI, I was shocked to see people riding motorcycles (600cc+, not mopeds!) WITHOUT helmets! Is it legal? Are they complete morons?
Did I mention that some of them were also bare-chested, with shorts & flip-flops?

Tedow; I don't think, in most cases that sportbikes are any more dangerous than H-D's or any other type or style bike. I will agree that some people that get sportbikes as their first bike can and do make bad mistakes that often kill them. There are a good number of people that are known to us riders as "squids". Not sure where the term came from, but these people are prone to acts and habits that are not conducive to long and heathly lives. I am going to start a new thread and ask if owning a sport(bike) make you a better (car) driver. Let's see what kind of response we get.
