Quick Help Please!!
That's not so much a theory as just a quote, isn't it? I can't find the line in my old "The Trial and Death of Socrates," but I'm positive that's where I read it. Anyway, I'm not sure if this will be useful, but other guys we read in that same class included Nietzsche ("Ecce Homo" and "On The Genealogy of Morals") and Aristotle ("Nicomachean Ethics").
Another famous philosopher is Immanuel Kant. He talks a lot about existance and reality, but I don't remember if he said much about the why instead of the what. My professor kept using the term "brain in the vat" when talking about Kant, almost identical to the whole "Matrix" idea. Very tough reading, though- far beyond the Greek works I've read.
