Quick marketing survey - please vote if you're a pet owner
my company is looking to build a shredder designed to shred newspaper and other junk mails so you can use the shreds for your pet - from birds to small mammals like hamsters, etc. would you buy something like that, say in the $20~$25 retail range? The problem with regular shredder is that they don't do newspaper very well - the ink's too sticky, so we need to develop a whole new cutting system for it.
I think a pet shredder could be a handy item based on the problems I've read in this thread...

I voted no, most of my pets dont need that, except for our sugar glider but I dont believe paper/news paper is good for its urine and other mess, I want something that absorbs and keeps the odor down.

nope. but cat and dog owners don't really need shredded paper for their pets, as that usually means they'll just make a mess with it all over the house.
shredded paper is strictly a tiny pet thing: birds, rabbits, hamsters and other rodents.

I voted "no".
Many bird owners, myself included, use flat sheets of newspaper for cage lining rather than shredded newspaper.
For other pets, like sugar gliders, prairie dogs, and small rodents, I do use shredded newspaper, but it's easy to tear by hand. Some of these animals like having newspaper shredded into larger chunks (as opposed to smaller strips), because they can crumple it up and build a nest with it.
That having been said, I think there could be a market for such a product, especially at such an affordable price. The people that buy Yesterday's News could probably use something like it. Just bear in mind that the product would have to be fast and able to cut a fairly large amount at once in order to confer an advantage over doing it manually.
