RANT - How do most drivers survive the trip to/from work?
Ok -
I can't take it - I've got to let out some steam.
I'm sorry, but how do most of the drivers on the road manage to survive the trip to and from work each day? I really wonder sometimes.
In rush hour traffic, I see people coming up an on-ramp and drive to the end of it at 40 MPH, and then slam on their brakes. Where did they think they were going?
I saw gridlock form today in a mall parking lot. Two people going in opposite directions wanted to pull into spots. The people following them crammed up tight and blocked both of them from entering the spot they were trying to make a left into. Both parking cars were waiting for the line of traffic to clear, but neither realized that it wasn't going to clear until they gave up on the spot. Agh!
My mom got a speeding ticket a couple of weeks ago - 80 in a 55 on the interstate. No biggie. But the cop was following her for 5 miles with the lights and sirens going trying to get her to pull over. She was yapping away on the phone and didn't know he was there. Finally he pulled around her and forced her off the road. He was _not_ a happy camper.
Near my place, there is a large 3 road intersection in the shape of a triangle. The lights are timed so that no one gets stuck in the intersection on a red - the lights for the first cross street go red before the second. A couple of weeks ago, the first light turned red and my cross street turned green. Not one, nor two, not even 3 cars went through the first red, but 6 cars. No way they thought it was yellow - they just didn't give a sh** about it or were too stupid to look at the correct signal.
Watching stuff like this makes me wonder how we (the US) only has 45,000 traffic fatalities a year. You would think most people would kill themselves trying to get out of the driveway.

Why do you think that "consumer advocate" groups are so intent on forcing us to pay for all kinds of safety devices? Surely don't want to force responsibility on us, that would be stupid!
My commute is no problem...I wake up, stumble to the kitchen, grab a pepsi or other handy drug, then stumble to the office and start up the computers. Usually around 11am

My commute is 25 minutes each way but rarely a traffic issue. Each morning before I leave to work I try to convince myself not to mutter the word a$$hole...but there's just to many of them out there.

I work from home, so I don't have the commute anymore.
When I used to commute, it was pretty bad. You just have to go into a zone and have some soothing music on. I used to drive 20 miles to work, and it would take me an hour each way, sometimes longer.

1.5 mile autocross to my office. can't vtec until i'm a block away 
I know what you mean though...it's not so bad here in the bay area but in DC area it's a nightmare. Driving 10 miles to my friend's house last week (chantilly to falls church for the yocals), I was almost hit three times and given the finger once by someone who almost swerved into me.
