Rant...now flame
I don't have a great story, or major success, I got the car because of the love for it. I didn't start a business, I don't have rich parents. I worked ever since i was 16, at common stores, I got my civic, when I was 18, my mom had it, and I just paid her my savings to get the car, which is around 3 gs. Ever since I saw the concept car of the S2000, I was in love with the design of it, that was the car I wanted. I got in an accident and that totaled my civic, and insurance gave me 8000 for the car. I used that 8000 for the downpayment of the S2000, my parents did the loan for me so I get cheaper rates, I pay 540 a month, plus insurance. I'm still working normal jobs, I have a weekend delivery job at a resturant, which pays off the car payment, and I"m in the process of getting a bank job, for my expenses. No it's not easy, my parents are not close to being rich, I still live at home, to me if I wanted something I will work to get it, I didn't let my parents buy me shit ever since I was 16. Any teenager can choose to buy a S2000 if they wanted to, they live at home, so that part of the expenses is not needed. people get what they like, I've heard of people who spends all of their $$ on starwars toys, and?? I'm 19 and I didn't get the car for the status or bragging or all of the stereo type views, I got it because I love cars, and this is the car I want to drive, and I'm willing to work for it. Is it the best decision a person should make?? NO, but hey I'm happy, datz enough for me.
Certainly times have changed, I have just recently graduated college and I am now employed full time as a software engineer. I don't make a ton of money, but how many people 10/20 years ago were able to make 45-60 right out of college. Certainly inflation/market plays a part, but I'm just saying that the market has been highly influenced by a younger generation and we are now reaping the rewards. I am 23-year-old owner of an s2k, I
Sorry but I don't get the big deal here... When I was 20, I was able to afford a new BMW Convertible. Sure I used my old car, a 6 month old Celica as a trade-in/deposit that my parents had brought me but I made the monthly payments and insurance. So what? Am I a lesser person because my parents brought me a car when I was a kid?
Now that I'm 27, I have a descent job in the internet industry, I can afford to buy my Honda S2000 and BMW E46 M3. Because I'm young, doesn't mean I can't afford certain things and for people to automatically assume my rich mommy and daddy brought it. Even if its the latter case, who cares? It's still yours.
And this is going to sound very snobbish but given the choice between a beat up old Yugo that I brought with my money and a brand new 30K car that dad brought me, I'll take the 30K car in a blink of an eye. Hey you're 20, you're young, you want to have fun and you're out to conquer the world right?
