Bill Gates lost about $1.85 billion in trading Friday, based on his Microsoft (MSFT) holdings, as company shares headed south by $2.56, or 4.32 percent, to close at $56.69. The chief software architect starts the week with $40.92 billion.
I'm sure you've all heard the way Mr. Gates' fortune began. After coming up with DOS, Bill enlisted his father's help in securing a per machine royalty contract with IBM and every clone manufacturer carrying his operating system. The rest, as thay say, is history.
