Bet that Hewlett-Packard purchase of Compaq causes some recent bargain prices to disappear

Has anyone really looked into this thing?? Like the fact that you cannot upgrade your pc w/o XP thinking you now have a different one and it will no longer run! Or if you completely replace your harddrive... you have to call microsuck for a new key!!

I've recommended to my company against migration to Office & Windows XP because of this type of practices. We will stay with Windows 2000 and Nt 4.0 for as long as we can.

Well, Windows XP is now running on new computers being sold (boxed copies of program to be available October 25) - has anybody here used it yet?

Yes, well sort of. I'm still on the Beta. No real problems. All legacy software works as advertised, short one program I use. Omnipage required a reinstallation, but worked fine after that. Most important, all of my games work . There is a lot of fuzzy feel-good crap they added. You can turn it off though.

I don't have time to look it up, but it depends on the configuration. Desktops can handle 4 changes without a new key. Network cards are an exception. Portables have looser configuration restrictions because of the docking problem.
