both families are VERY well off - and that prompted me to think about this question:

Do the rich and powerful usually end up marrying the rich and (sometimes) powerful? Although the term "class" is something we tend to not discuss about, but do people in similar social demographics usually get together?

 

It depends... I know of a few rich and powerful that have married middle class people. I don't know them personally, but with all the millionaires in the US, a few will pop up here and there

 

It's just who you end up mixing with.

Most people end up marrying people they spend the most time with - coworkers, students at the same University, etc. Since the "rich and powerful" likely spend most of their time with other people who are "rich and powerful", the tendancy would be to marry in that same class. I don't think it's necessarily elitism or anything of that sort, just natural human behavior.
