I originally paid about $4k for her ring, but i was also taking her to hawaii for her 30th birthday to propose. I got just a simple 1.75 carat diamond on a simple tiffany style band. I told her when we got back home that we could restyle it however she wanted. Of course the little pushy bitch got another 2 .8 carat stones on the side of the big diamond and then some little ones down the side.
They say marriage is about compromise. My ring is worth about $100 and hers is worth about $20k. Rediculous. Marriage is fun, but being single is fun. It's almost like the same thing but reverse.
When I was single my balls were flat and my wallet was fat... now that I'm married well. You get the idea.

I bought mine for around $200. It's not two month's salary, but damn, it gets the chicks.

I paid about a month's salary for hers (about $1700 at the time - I was in school full-time) and she paid about 70% of her monthly salary for mine.
Funny thing is, now that she's looking for a new ring ("just out of curiosity"), the price is actually about 50% or maybe 70% of a month's salary. So, I'm "saving money" in terms of relative wealth. Or something.
I'd never spend two month's salary on a ring. The more money I make, the more retarded that amount would get. I could MAYBE see myself spending $8K or so on a nice solitaire, custom made, for our 20th anniversary or something.

$12,000.00 for a Victorian ring from the 20's. My wife actually pointed it out when we were shopping one day and I made a mental note and picked it up when the time was right. I bought it from an estate jeweler here in St. Helena, CA. Since it was "one of a kind" I had to get a custom wedding band made to fit the engagement ring which put me back $2,500.00.
I have been married for a little over a year now and things are great but I can see where TAPOUT2000 is coming from. My wallet is very flat right now! SKKNY IMO I think it is a great idea to buy something you can afford at that particular time and upgrade to a bigger size like on your 5 year anniversary. You have to consider the cost of the wedding as well and I don't think it worth being broke just so your future wife can show off her ring to her friends. Girls are always competing when it comes to that stuff...

geez... I'd be happy with something simple.
I told my boyfriend (we've been talking about it.) he can get me something nice and simple, and then just get me hardtop and I'd be happy with it.
