Default Ringtone too high to be heard by adults

Apparently there's some ringtone that's too high for adults to hear, but highschoolers can hear it just fine.

My nephew had an app on his iphone that played ringtones at different levels. The app would specify how young you'd have to be to hear the tone at the frequency it was played at - and it was pretty accurate. I couldn't hear the tones that my nephews and nieces could hear and my older sister couldn't hear the tones that I could hear.

I don't know if all adults can't hear it. I can still hear high pitched noise pretty well. I can hear the high pitched whine CRT televisions and computer monitors make and most people I know can't hear them.

When I am at the airport looking at the bank of CRT monitors listing all the incoming and outgoing flights it gives me a major headache hearing the "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!" sound they make. Nobody else I know can hear it. If someone turns off a computer and leaves an old CRT on showing a blank black screen, I know the monitor is still on even in the next room. Thankfully, LCD and Plasmas don't make that noise.

Ditto. CRT screens drive me nuts.

Count me in as another old freak o' nature. I have to tell them to shut up outside the isolation booth when I get tested because they are stepping on the tones I can hear up to 25+ KHz.

that's the same for me. I'd go into a room i haven't been in and say that the tvs on, i can hear it. but the other person would just see a black screen and say that it's definitely not and that i must be crazy.
