I'm an experienced driver, and in my opinion the only time your hard on a car is if you grind the clutch, burn out, etc... If you redline that's not bad... but I've done my fair share of beatings on cars.

^ i agree with you for the most part, but it's undeniable that if you push the car in acceleration, braking, and/or cornering, you are putting more stress on the cars components, compared to driving it less aggressively, which contibutes to greater deterioration of those components. thus, i feel it is common courtesy to ask the owner of the car for permission to drive his/her car aggressively before you actually drive that car aggressively.

also, keep in mind that when you let someone drive your car and they get into an accident, it will be YOUR insurance, and not theirs, that will be financially responisble for any damages incurred. sure you may ask that person who crashed your car to pay the deductible, but it will still be YOUR insurance rate that will be affected. in that sense, it is completely proper for you to insist to the person driving your car that he/she must drive it responsibly.

I don't let anybody drive my car either. I know people who they will drive a freakn ford escort in the ground if it belongs to someone else. People just have no respect for other peoples stuff. Recently my friend let me drive his M3 converted 318ti and he was like... are you gonna get on it.. because I was just babying it because it wasn't mine.

some people are just proud of what their cars can do and want others to experience it. i'm kind of the same way when i let others drive my car. i want them to experience what i experience, and when someone is just coasting along, i insist they drive it harder. of course the main difference here is receiving the permission to drive someone else's car hard. i strongly believe that you should not drive someone else's car hard unless you have the explicit permission to do so.

I agree that it's about respect. The driver should respect the other person's property - whether it's a car, a boat, a bike, etc. I think a lot of it stems from the "it's not mine, I'm not gonna buy it, so I don't give a f*ck about it" mentality.

There's a difference between seeing what a car can do & beating on it.

What goes around, comes around. I don't use/abuse other people's things because I don't want anyone to do that to my stuff.

The only other person who drives my car is my wife (not very often), but half the monies hers.

She drives it like an old lady becaue she is afraid of fu__ing the car up. That's another reason I love my wife, she knows the car is treated like my baby (I guess a stolen baby)because I drive it extremely hard.
