It looks like there's been alot of threads on this topic lately. I get road rage almost daily and about 25% of the time I try to get vengence of some kind. Usually in my life I am a calm and collected person and it takes a lot to bother me, but with road rage I go OFF. I can't help it, the rage wells up in me, my symphathetics fire, I get hot, my heartrate gets rapid my pupil's dilate. I want to punish that person who:
cut me off, did not have the sence to use their GD turn signal, whipped into my lane of traffic and did not accelerate to the speed I was going thus causing me to have to slam on my brakes, goes slow in the left lane, can tell I'm trying to get into their lane and speed up to prevent me from doing so.
I try and try to let it go and many times I can, but sometimes, I go and try to cut that person off, ride their ass, high beam them, flip them off.
I know it's not the right thing to do and it'd be better to let it go, but I feel I need to teach these idiots a lesson so they might not do this again. I know it's futile, but coupled with the rage that wells up it just happens. I'm much more likely to do this in my S than say my wife's explorer because I have so much contol of the s I can
with these people more and still be safe.
I know I'm a bad person.
Other things that piss me off. People who can't park properly, that park at the extreme edge of a parking spot, or take up 1.3-2 parking spots, and women on cellphones driving SUV's who can't stay in their GD lanes or take turns without going WIDE because they are using one hand to make the turn.
Am I just too mean, does this happens to you guys? To what extent?

The best man in my wedding did the neatest job on a jerk I've ever heard about. This was in DC, where the embassy people have diplomatic immunity and can't be ticketed, no matter what they do.
DC has lots of traffic circles and some of them are really a bear to get into at rush hour. Mickey (my friend) had to negotiate a particular one of these right on Embassy Row every day. Some moron w/ a Rolls would frequently DOUBLE PARK on that circle and screw up traffic royally.
After having suffered thru that a number of times, Mickey was ready.
The next time he encountered the double-parked Rolls, after he FINALLY got past it, he pulled in front of it and stopped, opened his trunk and took out a gallon can of red paint. He jumped up on the hood, then onto the roof, and poured the paint all over the car. People in other cars just CHEERED. The jerk in the Rolls never double parked again.

Ay yi yi. Not good with the paint....but boy, was it deserved. I wouldn't do it, but I'd laugh watching someone else do it.
As for me, I get road rage but I almost never do anything about it. The one thing I will do involves people that tailgate me and don't back off. When they go to pass (on, say, a two lane road - one lane per direction), I just speed up and refuse to let them pass. I only do this occasionally, but if they're being a total idiot then I can't help it. I've got to do something.
Aside from that, I use my horn a fair bit. If someone merges doing 20kph and the limit is 100kph, I get on the horn long and hard. People sometimes need to be scared/startled once or twice so that they'll realize that they're driving like a drunk child.
The one thing I do have to keep in mind is that some people just don't know that they're doing something wrong. It's one thing if they're blatant, it's another if they're just ignorant. I have less problem with ignorance (I can teach them with my horn, right?
) than I do with blatant disregard.

Yea man, I'm with you on teaching some lessons. If people are driving like A-holes flying through heavy traffic cutting everyone off, Ill slow down to the same speed and the person next to me so they can't get passed. If people are driving in the left lane really F'n slow with the right lane free Ill flash them and try to point them in the right direction. If someone starts tailgating me for going 30 in a 25 through a town I will slow down to, oh, 5 or 10 mph. And I won't hesitate to let you know that I think you're number one.
My girlfriend always gets on my case for all of this....and of course she is right, I'm not helping the situation with my antics, but it makes me feel a bit better.
There are just too many stupid people out there for me to educate....

Unhappily, I'd guess that most of the attempts at "education" are either lost on the student or just piss them off, thereby teaching them nothing at all.
Wish I could keep that in mind when I get pissed.

Guys guys guys, don't you know it is futile to get pissed about this stuff. Ya gotta chill... Just let the a$$holes go, life is way too short to possibly end it all over a traffic incident.
No mater what you do there will always be some jerk wanting to ride up you arrse, go faster, cut you off...what ever. I am not the dala lama but I have reached a point of piece with the traffic world.
I hope I don't sound too much like a jerk myself, but I have so much more better things to do with my time and energy than waist it this way.
Please forgive the old fart attitude, I still love to drive very fast when conditions warrant.
I will stop my preaching now

That's one thing I freely admit, I have road rage. The way I figure it, everyone sucks as a driver except for me.
If someone is in the passing lane, and wont get over, I HAVE to cut them off. I'll speed up and intentially cut them off to teach them that lesson. I think too that they are only doing it because they thing everyone sucks as a driver except for me. I will ALWAYS get over for anyone if I'm in the passing lane if they are speeding along. It's weird, but it seems like there's a code of ethics for depending on how you drive.
For example, since I'm a speeder, I will always get over for faster drivers, and most of the time, people do the same.
I keep telling myself, it's just a car and you're going to get killed one of these days, but I have the habit of screaming out, You stupid [CAR MAKE / CAR MODEL] Mother Fu--er!
If I'm really mad, I'll throw in the car color too, "You stupid white Ford Bronco Mother Fu--er!!!! I amuse myself at how stupid I sound, but it's the joy of driving in America.

I used to get pissed but this is what I do now...
I just give them "permission" to be stupid after they do it. When I get cut off, I just wave them on into my lane.
The horn is for cows in the road or to let your friends know their ride is here.

Dearest S2Ki friends: Don't do it. They are idiots, they will remain idiots, they'll probably never learn. I mean, they have been doing these stupid things for a long time, they get "lessons" on a daily basis (don't think you are alone) and they still don't know how to drive.
Road rage management tip: When you get cut off by one of these jerks, instead of letting your catecholamines free, and get the urge to "teach" them a lesson on how to drive properly, think: Poor guy, he's probably in a rush to get to the hospital, his son or wife or father (whatever suits you) is dying. Try it, if you really do this exercise, it will control your fury and hopefully decrease the number of rage attacks you experience. If you think this is a lame exercise, that's your decision, but if you do, may I suggest you reflect on your stress levels?
Rage is a negative emotion guys, take it easy now.
Peace
Daniel
