Roadside memorial or
Car crash that killed 3 teens adds to August's tragic toll
If you're going to create a roadside memorial-at least make it look nice.
This looks like a trash dump.

i dunno
i think the act is more important than the presentation. these people are dealing with their grief the best way they can.
critiqueing their craft is kind of callous IMHO
they cant really erect any permanent memorial on state property

First of all, I think road side memorials are silly but.... whatever.
Let's see:
1: Bunch of teenagers in the car of an inexperienced driver. Fatal mistake.
2: Parents who buy their inexperienced kids fast cars. Fatal mistake.
3: Seat belts not being worn. Fatal mistake.
4: Street racing under all of the above conditions. Fatal mistake.
It has happened for many many years, It will continue to happen. It's sad. Even the currently emerging laws restricting the number of passengers in young driver's cars wouldn't have helped here as the driver was 18.

Screw all of this.
We, as 'Muricans, have picked up a sad sad sad need to memorialize everything ad nauseum, and as 'Muricans, make it as cheap and as chintzy as possible.
I'm not trying to be insensitive, it's just that I remember a time when bad things happened, we (in general) grieved, we have our memorial service, and we got on with our lives. No flowers at the crash site, no shrines, no extraneous crap. If someone felt compelled, they put up a REALLY NICE plaque, stone, or perhaps made a large donation to a pre-existing cause/charity.
I understand that in this instance, there's a letter from a younger family member. Fine, have the kid write the letter, then either take it to their grave site (common and fine), or have them burn it (good and therapeutic, IMHO). Just don't leave it there for somebody to pick up as part of their community hours for DUI.
It's death. It's final. STOP with the chintz. . . we don't need the crass ad-nauseum memorials of half-assed celebrities, and we don't need to reduce 'real people' to that same banal level.
. . . for once, dave and I completely agree on something.

If a memorial is on private property, fine. But if it's on the public right-of-way, it needs to be removed ASAP.
