Default Rolling back the odometer of an s2000

sorry to flood the boards, but I need some help quick:
https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/858...-the-odometer/

basically, I'm being accused by a honda dealership of rolling back the odometer.

I was not the cause of this.

Now that it's established that it can be done (to what extent, I don't know, or don't care), how could they have know this was done?

maybe somehwere along the way their was a carfax submitted (dealerships and random places like pep boys if they do service report to Carfax). They can accuse you all they want, but there is no way to prove YOU did it, fuk em

The only way I can see a dealership knowing would be if the ECU reading and the ODO reading didnt match.

A yellowbox would allow you to cheat the odo but it will also cheat the ECU. Possible that someone swapped out your dash cluster OR ran the car without a dash cluster for a while.

A car dealership is one of the least trustworthy entities out there. I'd ignore them.

I'm at one right now. At work. On the clock. Damn Chevy dealership!

The mileage is only stored in the cluster, not in the ECU on our S. So there is really no way to find out if our odometer was tampered with.

I'm reminded of Ferris Bueller scene with the Ferrari on jacks, spinning in reverse.

Go to a CarMax and get it appraised. They wil get you the Autocheck print out and this WILL tell you everything about the car.

turns out the dealership I bought it from did a typo on the carfax report. I blame the salesman who decided to word it "rolled back odometer" instead of "carfax inconsistencies." too bad, he missed out on a potential sale.

thanks for the advice.
