Default RSX-S dyno chart

interesting RSX-S dyno chart. i wonder why the power curve is so...curvy?

gotta love the steady decrease in torque from 3k to 6k... wonder what that feels like. looking at the charts makes me think they should start the VTEC 500-1k RPM sooner.

Isn't there a chip mod or something that can change the VTEC changeover point? That seems like it would be an easy way to increase power. [bracing for dumb question flames]

you can get a VAFC to change the VTEC engagement point.

the only replacement ECU on the market right now is either the Mugen or the Spoon.

Thx Mingster.

Maybe the RSXR plot is "curvy" b/c the motor isn't broken in yet?

I've seen another RSX-S plot that was much flatter. And my butt-dyno says flat too!

Oddly, the horsepower is smooth while the torque isn't. Anyone else find that rather odd?

My butt dyno resembles the horsepower curve - smooth (albeit less exciting than an S2000) power delivery from 3000-8000.

Just eyeballing an S2K chart and the RSX-S charts, one can clearly see the i-vtec benefits. More torque in the common street RPM ranges. Since the two motors are related, I wonder if there is any hybrid potential. Variable cam timing relative to the crank is one of the ways BMW achieves such wide range motors. They call it vanos. An S2K with i-vtec would feel "larger" in the street rev ranges. As if there were more cubic inches. Eventually Honda will do this on the s2k IMO.

While they can't yet make it work with ultra high revs, BMW has an even better approach where they ditch the throttle body (!) and use the intake valves for this purpose. That one is called valvetronic. They open the valves as much and for as long as the motor requires. So at idle they just crack them open. But at high revs there is too much friction. Lotsa smart folks out there eh?

yes, agreed. much smarter than i am, especially now that i'm half way done with my MBA, it's amazing how intelligent (and fast reacting) some of these people are.

i know a fellow board member whose mind churns probably a thousand times faster than mine, i can never keep up with him - which explains why he is where he is in the place he works at today. (t, you readin' this?! )
