Rubik's Cube.....
When I was working on my Master's degree in mathematics I wrote a paper on the Rubik's Cube. The movements of the faces form a mathematical structure called a group (we're getting into some abstract algebra here: you might want to turn back while it's still safe!) and I was analyzing the structure of this group. It is, to put it mildly, complicated.
I later made a computer model of a Rubik's Cube when I was learning to do 3-D graphics. Graphics were tougher then so my model wasn't as impressive as the one in the original link here, but it was still pretty good, and fun to create.
