S2000 Cancer Research Team
How many of you guys are aware that you can download a small progaramme which is completely bullet proof and fully automated, which runs in the background while your PC is in operation and receives regular downloads that enable YOUR PC to do essential number crunching looking for a cure for cancer? It runs in the background all the while your PC is running and only uses resources you aren't making a demand on. You can even opt to choose when you want to run the software, and even choose to use it just in 'screensaver' mode.
I've been a member of the s2k1i team for less than a month, but the team; which boasts only 34 members
is quietly returning quite awesome results on a regular basis.
Individual membetrs making a HUGE contribution are:-
DaveA
David Shea
Ian Brown
J Rush
Josh3io
I'm in there as a newbie as 'Adagio' sorry for the confusion
There are now about 1 million PCs world wide contributing to this effort which is making huge inroads into this research.
ITS' NOT ENOUGH!!!!!
I was a little concerned about using this initially as I spend a lot of time on line, and the work I do is mostly very graphics intensive. This programme has never interfered with my personal demands on the system but happily jumps in and utilises the system respources to the full when it can.
A team numbering only 34 members is CRAP for a site with a membership of this size. !!
All you guys out there with access to high-end machines and networks.. PLEASE think about the difference you could be making here in real tangible terms to finding a cure for a disease which has certainly been guilty of killing someone you've known or loved.
I can't believe there isn't more interest in this!
Perhaps someone who's a little less seasonally 'under the weather ' than I am just at the moment would post the necessary link for those who want to know more about this.

I think the link you're looking for is here ----> http://members.ud.com/projects/cancer/
BTW, this is the first I've heard of a S2Ki team. I check the forums just about every day, so I don't think the word has gotten out?
I've been a "privateer" for over a year now and have gathered up about 85,000 points. If I can find a way, I will add those to the team - it looks like their server is acting up right now.
Also - I looked and could not return a listing for "s2k1i" but I was able to find the team by searching for "S2000" and using the 'description' dropdown.

Thanks Dave.,You'll find 2ki if you search for a team under 'S2000' . Whether you join as an individual or as a member of a team, this has got to be one the best uses to which you can put that expensive, under-utilised piece of hobby kit sitting on your desk. You can still play 'Unreal'when you want to too !
Cedric, thanks. I was not aware of this research project until today. Since my wife is a cancer survivor, I can't think of a better way to use my PC.
I also found the original post from cthree: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...ighlight=cancer
Three of my neighbors and my wife all had cancer at about the same time and my wife is the only one that is still alive. Cancer is a very nasty disease and it needs to be conquered.

Good man!
Incidentally if you care to have a look on their bulletiin board, you'll see people arguing that we're all a bunch of jerks and that we're doing their research for nothing, when the cure, if it's found, will be sold to the giant pharmacutical companies who'll just get rich out of it.
I don't know if that's true, there's some respectable names behind this research anyway, and if it's true,.... what's new ..and who cares?
I woudn't run this software if it interfered with what I need to do on my PC, but it never does.

I read all of that nonsense on the other board and you know what......if it helps to cure cancer, then it was all worth it. The people that do not want to help, apparently have had no close contact with cancer. I have seen many people die from this terrible disease and it needs a cure, once and for all.

Have you done the dowload from the link on this page? IIRC That's a first step and then set-up after that.
