S4 rollover track video
It happend at turn one going into Big Bend at Lime Rock. Cars like the S4 will typically hit about 110mph down the straight before braking for turn one. Turn one is usually a 35mph turn for most street cars. The driver claimed he had no brake pedal pressure when he did his usual braking for turn one, no braking capability at all. Could be over-heated brakes, bubbling brake fluid, we don't know. (You can see from the video that the car was way too fast approaching turn one and did not even attempt to negotiate the corner) To make matters worse, there usually is a straight run-off area with tire & concrete barriers to stop the car for situations such as in this case. But last winter in the northeast we had an enormous amount of snowfall that the Lime Rock track crew did not have enough time to clear the huge snow bank at the end of the run-off area before track season started. This happend first week of April, I believe the 2nd track event of the year. As you saw from the video, the snow bank launched the S4 in the air and flipped it. The car was totalled. Every panel on that car was bent. Luckily the driver did not suffer any serious injuries.
