Default Sad Day....

Like the title says. It might not be of any major interest or importance to the younger people here...

Great singer, my mother and father introduced me to him years ago early in life and I have always admired him and his work. It's a damn shame, he will be missed.

The man sang big, lived big and died. . .

He wasn't the best raw reader (that's Carreras), and he wasn't the best character actor (that was Domingo), but dammit, the guy could sing, and make that music come alive like few could.

Ciao Luciano: Vederli dall'altro lato.

About as low as you can go.
Even if you did not like his style of music, he was one of the great voices of all time in opera.

I thought that was a tribute to Adam Sandler's Operaman...no?

He certainly could sing. I was fortunate enough to see him, as well a Placido, perform at the MET in New York. A am not the biggest fan of Opera but it was a great experience seeing L.P perform.
