After thinking about it for a long time, and being the recipient of advice from hoards of older "wiser" peeps...I've decided that getting an S2000 at 22 won't work as well as I'd like it to. Granted, I make 52K, but I have to budget school, rent, mutual funds, IRA's, and normal life expenses...the S2000 would simply bend me over and spread my cheeks...

I hope you're all as teary eyed as I am...

Sorry to hear that dude. 50K just ain't enough but you'll get there soon. It's always a drag to hear about those that just can't make it.

When is it ever going to be enough?

You're probably going to be looking at payments at around $600-700 per month (with nothing down, 72 months) plus $150 for insurance and $100 for gas. So that's around 900-1000 bucks a month for the car itself.

if your rent is around $600-800 and you have no debt, you'll have around $500 bucks to play around with a month (conservative).

i'm in the same shoes as you are and my wiser, older friends have told me to wait as well.... but when are you going to be 22 with a car like the s2000? it's one thing to drive this kind of car when you're in your late 20s and up... but it's another thing when you're single and just out of college to enjoy something like this. if you screw up, you can always sell it and pay the loss if any for a high resale car like this one. so think it over again. so what would you get instead of the s2000 then?

tell us more about your situation. maybe we can persuade you.

Rahvis, you sound like a wise young man who has his priorities straight, unlike many of your generation who want instant gratification. You'll know when the time is right to indulge your desire for a toy like the stook; it will probably be sooner than you think. At 53, either think of me as the voice of experience or an old fart; your choice.

That is too bad to hear dude...but look on the bright side, how many 22 yr old guys are making in 50s' per year. S2000 is an excellent car but by the time you are ready to purchase your next expensive car again, you probably would not have any problems choosing an equal or better car than S2000. So good luck to you!

Hehehe...this support is great. Maybe if I try, I can get enough people to feel sorry enough for me and donate $$$ to buy me an S2K...like that "buymeaferrari.com" guy. Ahh well...

It's 4AM here. I have major jet lag.

You're a good kid. 42K is a lot for this car. Insurance is pretty high for you. I have two tickets as well, but I've been quoted $170 a month. So if i were in your situation, I'd definitely opt for the Civic Si. A solid ride. And if you're going to college, tuition is something to consider, but imagine the dudes and dudettes on campus checking out your ride once spring comes around! There's the temptation.

I think for those who think 50K is not enough for someone our age to get the S2000 need to see the world from our perspective.

We have no kids. We have no mortgages to worry about. if we played it safe in college by not going into credit card debt and had scholarships to to not be burdened by that 30K tution, $900 out the door for transportation isn't as bad as you think. if priorities change in a few years, then sell the car and get a jeep.

is the s2000 worth this much? you tell me if you'd do it at our age knowing the fun you're having now in the car. single and young with an s2000... killler combo.

now back to my cereal.

Rahvis buy a new miata....A hardtopped, 6 speed miata, with a glass rear window will come in around 24k....it is everything a S2000 is except the VTEC....trust me it is the natural choice beore buying a S2000...and the miata has so many aftermarket products and a great support group at miata.net.....seriously think about...also buy some used steel wheels and some good snow tires and you have the perfect car..

Scott ( a happy miata owner, but I would be even happier if I owned a S2000)
