SanDisk ImageMate Install Help???
This past weekend, about 7 of us had a mini meet for the Chicago Auto show and I took out the digital camera out for a test drive. I took about 30 pics and started downloading to my computer from the camera using the included USB connector. It was so slow that the download process ate up half of the non-rechargeable battery (which is about $13/piece). So on Sun. I went over to Best Buy and saw a deal to get a free USB ImageMate reader/writer on purchase of a 64 MB sanDisk card. I bit.
But since yesterday, I installed the included software, then plugged in the SanDisk Reader. I couldn't get the computer to see the Reader.
This morning I brought the software, reader, and the memory cards to work to try the install on my work computer. Same problem though, the computer doesn't see the reader. Normally when I plug something into the USB ports, it auto enables the device on the computer. If the computer doesn't have the software, it will ask me if I have it.
What am I doing wrong, what am I not doing, or whatever? Anyone have any knowledge of how they set their ImageMate up?

Hmmm, that's the device that I use for my smart media card. I bought it a while back and installed according to the instructions, but the drivers would blow Win98 up everytime...ARGH!
So I bailed on the whole thing...
Then in preparation for the migration to Win2K, I uninstalled a ton of stuff and thought about trying the SanDisk reader again and it worked without a hitch. It's the USB version and works like a charm now...
This is a dumb question, but did you follow the instructions to the T? I rarely if ever do, but this installation, as I recall, was a little weird.
Wish I had more help for you...but uninstall all of it, from Device Manager and everywhere else, then try again. That's what I ended up doing and it eventually worked...
HTH!

Thanks Greg,
I just went over to the SanDisk site and I think I see what the problem is.
Their install software has a problem with two things. The first is the issue with the Creative CD-R writer software package. Some registry files with the extension .AIXX (?, don't know of registry files of this type) compete with some of the SanDisk ImageMate software .dll's. There's is a patch that I need to download.
The other problem is that the software doesn't "like" Windows 98 (non SE versions) with the auto-USB enabled detection. So they have a link to a free Windows 98 SE upgrade that I'll have to do.
Other than that, the computer at home is reserved only for Napster music (mp3's), car pics, and technology pieces so that I can use the computer as a development machine for my learning. The only thing that I'd have to clean off (or burn onto CD is the 1 GB of mp3 files I have, and the 80 megs of pics).
I won't have any issues with mp3's anymore seeing that Napster has now become a pay site, as of today. <---I added this comment because I couldn't remember whether or not you were into Napstering any mp3's, so it was just a little FYI.
